The Digital Media Technology (DMT) Lab specialises in the development of methods for creating, processing, analysing, evaluating and distributing digital media. The Lab brings together core expertise in digital signal processing and machine learning.

Formed in 1974 by students at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of renowned quartet leader, Sidney Griller, they rapidly achieved national recognition, and were appointed Quartet-in-Residence by the University of Warwick in 1977, a post which they held for over forty years.

PartPlay provides a software resource for classical musicians in training allowing them to play along with professional musicians, and learn from their musical performance. The software allows to enhance sight-reading, ensemble skills, and expand repertoire knowledge.

Semantic Audio Labs was established as a company in December 2018, by a group of BCU academics. It is founded on years of research into semantic audio carried out within the Digital Media Technology.

The School of Psychology and the Department of Music collaborate in this project to study the combination of prediction and reaction for motion coordination. The Sensory Motor Neuroscience lab in the Schoool of Psychology performs interdisciplinary research into the sensory and motor systems of the human brain.
